Homes Away From Home
Homes Away From Home is a rental marketplace built right here in Butte, Montana, by me — a former travel nurse and rental property owner. I created it to make finding and managing rentals easier for both renters and property owners.
Whether someone needs a furnished place for a travel assignment, housing for a semester or clinical rotation, a temporary home during a relocation, an unfurnished long-term rental, or simply a new place to call home, the goal is simple: make it easier to find the right rental and manage more of the process in one place.
Built from experience on both sides
I built Homes Away From Home after experiencing the rental process from both sides.
While traveling for work, I experienced firsthand how frustrating finding housing could be. Every new assignment meant searching through different websites and Facebook groups, messaging multiple landlords, trying to figure out what was actually available, and then dealing with payments through cash, checks, Venmo, PayPal, or whatever method the owner happened to use.
Later, becoming a rental property owner showed me the other side of the problem. Advertising a property, communicating with renters, keeping track of availability, collecting rent, managing deposits and utilities, and paying large platform fees could quickly become complicated.
I kept thinking there had to be an easier way to do all of it.
That experience became Homes Away From Home — a platform designed to bring rental listings, communication, verification, rental requests, payments, deposits, utilities, availability, and rental management tools together in one place.
Built for more than just vacation rentals
Homes Away From Home serves travel nurses and other healthcare professionals, students and interns, contract and trades workers, military and government personnel, relocating employees and families — or anyone simply looking for a place to rent.
Property owners can list furnished or unfurnished houses, apartments, condos, private rooms, and other rental properties. Renters can search near hospitals, campuses, worksites, or wherever they need to be and communicate directly with the property owner before requesting a rental.
Whether you need a place temporarily or you're looking for a long-term place to call home, Homes Away From Home is designed to make the process simpler.
Trust built into the process
Renters complete identity verification through a third-party identity verification provider before they can send a rental request. Optional affiliation verification can also help confirm things such as school enrollment, travel assignments, employment, union dispatch, or military TDY orders.
Property owners can review available verification information, renter history, and reviews before deciding whether to accept a rental request. Reviews go both ways, helping both renters and property owners build a reputation on the platform.

Property owners can manage listings, availability, rental requests, communication, payments, deposits, utilities, and more from one account.
Standard listings are $149 per year. Your first paid listing is 50% off for the first year, and additional promotional and multi-listing discounts may be available. When rent is processed through Homes Away From Home, owners pay 3% for bank/ACH payments or 5% for card payments, while renters do not pay a booking or platform fee on rent.
The idea is simple: give property owners the tools they need without taking a large portion of their rental income.
A platform built to make renting easier
Homes Away From Home is owned and operated by Thomas Housing LLC. We provide the technology that connects renters with independent property owners and helps them manage the rental process. Property owners remain responsible for their properties, rental agreements, rates, availability, deposits, and compliance with applicable laws.
This started because I wanted the kind of rental platform I wished existed when I was traveling for work — and the kind of platform I later wanted as a property owner.
Now the goal is to build something that makes renting easier for everyone on both sides.
